Akanksha (Anand in Gujarat) More on this clinic

Pros -  World famous Dr Patel. Smaller city, large clinic. Has more equipment
and facilities on site than Rotunda. Hospital in same grounds. Liable
to meet other couples. Family atmosphere. Friendly staff. Able to
            meet Surrogates & Donors.

Cons - Very busy. Waiting list. No singles or gays. Needs a connecting
flight. No shops or Restaurant of note. Gujarati food!

Rotunda (Mumbai)

Pros - Very near the Mumbai airport. ISO standard clinic. Helped us have our
child! Close to all the embassy.

Cons - Small clinic. Hotels expensive. Pollution and Traffic. Staff needs to
cheer up a bit. Pregnancy updates. Meeting of Surrogates & Donors not encouraged.

Dr Kaushal Kadam's Clinic (Mumbai) More on this clinic

Wouldn't the ideal clinic fall somewhere between the above two? A surrogate and intended parent friendly clinic not needing a connecting flight? Our choice of clinic could be the new kid-on-the-block that's about to ruffle some feathers in the surrogacy world as the doctor is non other than Dr Kaushal Kadam formerly of Rotunda. The very doctor (and clinic) that helped us have our baby!

From the initial set up of her clinic Dr Kadam has sought our opinion. At the casual meet at a very expensive restaurant was a patient of hers whom I was escorting. Our voices, fears and concerns were taken onboard. All the good points from the other clinics have been roped up with none of the bad points. A doctor that listens, a clinic that will go places.

Pros -  Near the Airport, Gay & Singles welcome, surrogate-patient
friendly, new equipment. Modern surroundings with westerners in
mind. Endoscopy/surgery capable. The doctor of our first baby.

Cons - A million pound to set up. A lot for an Indian!
Other bad points discovered will show up here.

Going places it may be but if like the other clinics if we find aspects of the clinic lacking; cleanliness of the washroom to the choices of slippers on show or Semen sample room or staffing levels payment methods etc. we will put the boot in and pull away our stamp of approval.

This time Dr Kadam will have endoscopy surgery available on site. She will also be more morally and ethically tuned as she felt uncomfortable with practices performed elsewhere. The recruitment of egg donors and surrogates was a bone of contention, fetus reduction and so on. I had mentioned the surrogates in Gujarat were bigger and healthier than women folk of Mumbai. Agreeing, the clinic will make a concertive effort to recruit healthier surrogates. The benefit will show itself in less terminations, less cesarean, healthier babies, especially twins and less cost.

An example of keeping the cost to you as low as possible another delivery hospital will be sought. Yes you will have a choice but the idea was to spread the load of surrogacy patients over another hospital for various reasons. Keeping a surrogate waiting all day for a simple scan is not ideal nor is ramping up the fees for overseas patients ten fold.

Trimming the excess fat where too many fingers were in the pie should bring the cost of surrogacy down a little. Every penny helps. For instance the insurance fee. We discussed methods of reducing this fee with the doctor over dinner. Over time with westerners in mind the clinic will streamline and simplify further every aspect and this includes the language and terminology. I'm sure you all know the ease with which Bobby had spelled out the cost of treatment in his website and emails so much so that Dr Kadam will follow suit; payment breakdown was also a criticism of the other clinics.

An ISO Standard accredited clinic? No need. It will be endorsed by us!

Too good to be true? Furniture not to your liking? Plasma screen showing too many Shah Rukh Khan videos? Send us your verdict, good or bad and I'll launch them at the doctor. A suggestion box? Good idea, anything else?

These clinics will provide a surrogate for that price which includes a deposit for the delivery of baby
(see previous prices of Rotunda).

If you choose to find your own surrogate or have a surrogate in mind then we can provide you with the paperwork contract. Adapt it to suit your particular requirements as the clinic's paperwork would not be suitable.
Should you wish to find your own surrogate/egg donor we can show you where to advertise in the Indian Press.
In the UK it is not necessary to join any surrogacy organisation. Claiming to be a charity/help group, unless you have a surrogate in mind you are left to your own devices in many respects. With freely available info on the web (like this one!) if you do find a surrogate one can perhaps entertain the thought of joining these groups or save your membership money and go find a hospital and consult their counsellor instead before commencing treatment all without direct 'help' from any body or group.
But what about the hidden costs, the extras? There's none as it's all included. So ...

Zero $ for Drugs
Zero $ for Treatment
Zero $ for Interfering organisations
Zero $ for Surrogate's expenses
Zero $ for Insuring the surrogate
Zero $ for Antenatal
Zero $ for Housing and feeding the surrogate for 9 months

Even if you add the cost of airfare and hotels, for clinics in Mumbai we stayed at a hotel in Pune, a nearby city, Rs700 per couple, a 3 hour drive away from clinic. Rs3,500 taxi, about 5 trips, cost of food, shopping, duty free and both wage losses it would still be cheaper to do it in India than anywhere else.
Even if you are white. Authentic curry to boot and a fab sun tan!
For Hotels in either Mumbai or Gujarat get in touch with us if you want to save money as unsuspecting tourists pay crazy prices.

For basic IVF treatment on yourself and no surrogacy the cost is around $5,000. It's a good way to skip one's own country's choking restrictions on your age, your body mass index, your sex preferences, and which side of the bed you get out of. Most impressive of all you get the choice of implanting a few embryos more than say the UK permits it's own clinics to do. That alone is reason enough especially on the cost-per-embryo basis.

If the egg donors do not meet your requirements on appearances etc then you can advertise for an egg donor on the
Times of India newspaper. $600 ad cost on a dozen cities once a week for 2 months. An egg donor can expect payments of up to Rs50,000.

If you have any questions on doing surrogacy or travelling abroad then please tell us as there are many stratas and areas of surrogacy and not every couple is married or even hetrosexual.

There are many figures bandied around the web. Even our own interviews have been distorted to make for better headlines. What is the true cost of IVF-Surrogacy? Do your maths and homework. Medicines alone costs $6K, the rest to the clinic/surrogate/antenatal/delivery at private hospital etc. Rotunda is the first clinic in India acredited with an international ISO mark. And if you cannot afford to go there then Akanksha will mean an additional connecting flight from either Mumbai or New Delhi plus an hour taxi ride. Dr Kadam's clinic hopefully being the best of two worlds cost wise and locationwise with Mumbai airport at Dr Kadam's doorstep. You decide.
We'd hope, once you are successful with your surrogate, you'll more than gladly be happy to hit our
donation button with the remainder of your purse!
Give our love to the clinics. Everything we do is free. Just remember us when you win that Lotto. Good luck and send us a card if you're a daddy!

We can if you wish, personally escort  you to India and the clinic. You'll only need to pay our airfare($1,200).
If you can't do better than $80-a-week hotel and free temple food 3.5 times a day then give us a call  home@oneinsix.com  And we have been asked.
Ah, the delights of real India!

Want t
o know how we got our baby home? What steps it took? How much? How long? What palms to 'grease' and the precise wordings on the many letters to the Embassy? It's all in the eBook!  Reading it will save you an enormous amount of hard graft not no mention the ability to save anybody thousands, preferably before the horses have bolted. It's invaluable and don't say we didn't tell you so.

Lastly, you may hear about Rotunda, Akanksha and Dr Kadam's clinic on the many website and forums on the internet. Some blast negativity, some surrogacy forums have hidden agendas
see here and so encourage this sort of activity. That's the one percent, the vast majority lavish nothing but praise for these doctors. Do your own research and don't let having that baby slip away no matter what the cost or indeed what you read on this or any other website. There's honesty for you.
